Is The Wind of Change Coming To Sweep Penang again??
Is the wind of change coming to sweep Penang again?
Despite claims to the contrary, the 12th general election
in 2008 proved that democracy was very much alive in Malaysia. BN lost Penang
to the opposition for the second time in Malaysia's history.
It was on the grounds of the Han Chiang High School that
DAP held one of its biggest ever rally prior to the election. For Penang, the
Han Jiang is the mount on which politicians deliver their sermons.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri NajibRazak is slated to spend
two days in Penang, on the first and second day of Chinese New Year. The
1Malaysia Penang CNY Open House at the Han Jiang grounds signifies the
increased strength of BN, as the influential individuals behind Hang Jiang are
now swinging back their support towards BN after four years of DAP rule.
To add salt to DAP’s wound, South Korean pop sensation
PSY will perform at the event, much to the chagrin on Lim Guan Eng’s DAP who
has used the star’s groundbreaking hit OppaGangnam Style as a parody to mock
BN. Credit should be given to the new dynamic creed of Penang BN politicians
under the helm of its chief, Teng Chang Yao.
It goes without saying that most Penangites have had
enough of Lim Guan Eng. The people of Penang are beginning to see that Guan Eng
is just a smooth talker lacking long-term vision and planning.
What has Penang achieved after four years of Guan Eng and
Pakatan rule? Massive traffic jams, escalating property prices and deficit
budget for three years in a row.
The 1Malaysia Penang CNY Open House has a confirmed
60,000 guests, but turnout is expected to be closer to 120,000 of which70% of
the guests are expected to be Chinese as Penangites begin to lose patience for
Guan Eng and his dictatorial ways, coupled with the constant squabble the party
faces with PAS recently.
This BN event could be the largest Chinese rally in
Penang and has the potential to be the catalyst and game changer for
BarisanNasional ahead of the 13 general election.
Recent polls show that BN have a firm 18 out of the 40
state seats with 5 seats of BN and Pakatan having a 50:50 chance, therefore the
Pearl of the Orient is up for grabs which may signal the wind of change on
turnout and Han Jiang's shift in position.
Huge turnout at the event especially the younger voters
could signify the new wind of change for PM Najib and the appeal of the
1Malaysia brand among the people of Penang.
